Non-Reactive Adhesives

Adhesive Materials Designed for Durability, Delivered by Us

Non-reactive adhesives are a class of adhesives that cure primarily through physical processes such as the evaporation of solvents or water, or by cooling from a molten state. Unlike reactive adhesives, non-reactive adhesives do not require a chemical reaction to achieve their bonding properties. This makes them versatile and easy to use, suitable for a wide range of applications across various industries. Non-reactive adhesives are prized for their simplicity, quick setting times, and reliable performance.

Hot Melt Adhesives

Hot melt adhesives are a type of non-reactive adhesive that are applied in a molten state and form bonds upon cooling. These adhesives are solid at room temperature but become fluid when heated, allowing them to flow and wet the substrate surfaces effectively. Hot melt adhesives are widely used in industries such as packaging, woodworking, bookbinding, and product assembly due to their rapid setting times and strong bond formation. They are also valued for their long shelf life, lack of volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and the ability to bond a variety of materials including paper, plastic, wood, and metals.

Roehm DEGALAN® Acrylic Binders

DEGALAN® binders are essential components in heat sealing adhesives used for high-quality lacquers in pharmaceutical blister packs and food packaging. They offer excellent adhesion to aluminum and various plastics, secure sealing, cost savings in PVC-based packaging, ease of formulation and application, and unique sealability versus PVdC. The binders’ compliance with regulatory standards (US DMF #9576) further underscores their suitability for pharmaceutical applications. These features make DEGALAN® binders a versatile and reliable choice for creating secure, durable, and efficient heat seals in critical packaging applications.

Sasol Microionized Fischer-Tropsh Waxes

Fischer-Tropsch (FT) waxes are a valuable component in hot melt adhesives, providing several performance benefits. They offer sustainability with a lower carbon footprint, enable quicker set times, and their narrow molecular weight distribution leads to lower viscosity, making the adhesives easier to apply. FT waxes facilitate excellent adhesion to various substrates, are compatible with other adhesive components, and provide a clear, water-white appearance that ensures stability and aesthetic quality. These properties make FT waxes particularly useful in industries such as packaging, automotive, and textiles, where strong, quick-setting, and stable adhesives are required.

Pressure Sensitive Adhesives

Pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are unique non-reactive adhesives that form a bond when light pressure is applied to marry the adhesive with the adherend. They do not require heat, water, or solvents to activate their adhesive properties. PSAs are commonly used in applications such as tapes, labels, stickers, and decals. They offer the convenience of instant bonding and are designed to maintain a balance between tack, peel, and shear strength. Pressure sensitive adhesives are available in various forms including acrylics, rubber-based and silicone-based formulations, each offering specific benefits tailored to different substrates and application requirements.

Sasol's NOVELUTION Anionic Surfactants

NOVELUTION anionic surfactants play a crucial role in the production of high-quality pressure sensitive adhesives by establishing stable monomer emulsions, preventing coagulum and grit formation, reducing production interruptions, and influencing particle size and distribution. These benefits lead to adhesives with consistent performance, enhanced adhesion strength, and broad applicability in industries such as packaging, medical, and consumer products.

Evonik's VISIOMER® Methacrylate Monomers

VISIOMER® MEEU improves the adhesion and cohesion of emulsion polymers for pressure-sensitive adhesives by enhancing surface interactions, increasing polymer network strength, and providing flexibility and durability.

Magris Talc Products

Talc is an essential additive in pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs), enhancing performance through improved mechanical properties, such as strength and stability. Its hydrophobic nature boosts water resistance and corrosion protection, while its oleophilic properties ensure uniform dispersion with liquid resins. Talc also contributes to shear-thinning rheology, improving low-shear viscosity for easier application and better control. These benefits make talc valuable in PSAs for labels, tapes, and medical applications, ensuring reliable and easy-to-apply bonds across various uses.
